 "Harrow Arts Centre offers the community a terrific variety of entertainment from both professional and community companies. It is the only dedicated performing arts venue in the borough and works in close partnership with many local organisations and community groups to deliver an inclusive, educational and accessible programme of events and activities for the diverse community of Harrow."

EMERGENCY UK is pleased to exhibit a selection of the 100 artworks. The funds raised from the sale of the painting will go to sustain the Paediatric Centre in Bangui, Central African Republic.

One hundred paintings have been donated by as many artists under the coordination of the renowned Italian artist G.M. Zago. All these paintings have been completed by Zago and are now on sale for £350 each to raise funds for the Paediatric Centre of Bangui (CAR).



A selection of these paintings will be exhibited at the Gallery in Barking.

Music by: Isabel Maria Meuser: Baroque violinist. She was born into a musical Family and started at a young age with piano, violin and viola.She plays regularly with the Royal Academy Period Instrument Baroque Orchestra with which she performed for HRH Prince Charles at St. James’s Palace. Isabel is member of the orchestra of the Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series which plays under prestigious conductors such as John Butt and John Eliot Gardiner.

Gianantonio Marino Zago is a renowned Italian artist who presented approximately 20 paintings at the Hofstra University in New York, featuring unpublished foreshortened of Verona. His works were also exhibited in Otaru (Japan) and Munich (Germany).

Recensione artistica  "Zago and your Friends" a cura di Valentina Basile

  

L'arte contemporanea si affida continuamente a nuove sperimentazioni. Il discorso che vuole pronunciare con parole dettate da un gusto nuovo e da vicende storiche mutate, è quello già scritto dai grandi artisti del '900, che, inscrivibili nelle cosiddette avanguardie artistiche, hanno spalancato una volta per tutte la strada all'utilizzo di materiali atipici. Si cominciò con sabbie, plastica, sugheri, lamiere di ferro. Fu poi la Pop Art ad introdurre l'impiego dei rifiuti come materiale artistico ed è da questa esperienza, svuotata da quell'idea di serialità provocatoria che la accompagnò e riempita di significati nuovi e profondi che si fa largo l'idea del riciclo. D'altronde l'arte oltre ad un'esperienza sensoriale - e psicologico - emotiva - è da sempre fenomeno sensibile alle problematiche del suo tempo.
Gli artisti colgono in sferzate di pennello, scalpello o altro ancora i dolori che affligono la società, le sue gioie e i suoi periodi d'oro, le parabole ascendenti e il suo colare a picco. L'arte di questi tempi si confronta perciò con tematiche e problematiche generate da un mondo sempre più tecnologico ed artificiale, a partire dall'inquinamento. Ed è per questo che si ritrova nella pratica genuina e sempre più diffusa del riciclo, prendendo a modello le parole di Gabriel García Márquez: "Le cose hanno una vita propria, si tratta soltanto di risvegliargli l'anima". Qui il rifiuto, l'oggetto che sarebbe destinato all'abbandono nelle discariche sempre più affollate, subisce una duplice rivalutazione: dapprima viene considerato degno di essere utilizzato di nuovo e quindi riacquista vita e modalità d'uso, poi viene elevato ad oggetto artistico, per cui viene inserito all'interno di un prodotto creativo. E ne diviene parte integrante, acquista la valenza di strumento e veicolo delle emozioni dell'artista al pari di elementi nobili quali il colore o il disegno.
 Gli artisti, riuniti per Emergency nella mostra Zago and your friends, sono diversi fra loro per nazionalità, preferenze cromatiche ed espressive. Si tratta di opere cosiddette a due mani, ma l'innovazione vera sta nel fatto che tutti e cento gli artisti partecipanti si siano affidati alle mani e all'ingegno di un unico artista: Gianantonio Zago Marino.
L'operazione cui sono andati incontro è rischiosa: hanno sviluppato le loro opere, ma acconsentendo che un altro artista vi lavori ulteriormente, accettano anche che le loro creazioni si trasformino in qualcos'altro, che resta una loro espressione intrinseca, ma al tempo stesso diviene qualcosa di completamente nuovo, modellato da un'operazione di osmosi culturale ed artistica. Materiali e tecniche miste caratterizzano quindi i quadri in esposizione, ma i lavori sono uniformati da una comune ricerca espressiva, che diventa un'esperienza tattile, perché è possibile percepire la materia che affiora dallo spazio-limite del quadro ed invade la realtà. Ed è anche quest'ultima che a sua volta varca il limen, la soglia dell'opera e ne diventa un'estensione, perché la tela è costituita da oggetti veri, elementi protagonisti della vita quotidiana di ciascuno.
Si tratta di una scelta non casuale di oggetti che però sono stati trovati per caso, vicino ai cassonetti, agli angoli delle strade.
Zago guarda ai materiali da inserire in base a fattori emotivi ed estetici, rispettando l'armonia di un'opera già conclusa. E crea in alcuni casi effetti di tromp l'oeil, in cui l'elemento pittorico richiama quello materico e quasi vi si confonde.
L'esperienza della Pop Art si traduce nelle lattine di coca cola o fanta che sono oggetto privilegiato utilizzato dall'artista. Ma ad esse si accompagnano pacchetti di sigarette, peluche abbandonati, scarpe rovinate, penne, cinture, pennelli e tanto altro ancora. Zago crea composizioni polimateriche alle quali talvolta unisce la tecnica dei pastelli ad olio. Le opere si colorano in questo modo di figure emblematiche che nella loro semplicità stilizzata diventano elemento grafico potentissimo.
L'arte, in questo contesto, si fa denuncia sociale e politica, vera lotta al sistema. Promuove i diritti dell'uomo, la pace, la solidarietà. E nell'era globalizzata, lontano dal mondo meccanico e freddo della virtualità, diventa veicolo autentico mediante il quale esprimere le proprie idee, che attraverso questo evento internazionale diventano testimonianza di emancipazione e tramite di una conoscenza accessibile a tutti.
I quadri amplificano quindi il loro significato o se ne caricano di uno nuovo, legato a problematiche attualissime, che si conformano perfettamente all'azione umanitaria di Emergency, come il dilagante degrado sociale, la perdita dei valori, la mercificazione dei corpi, il dramma delle vittime di guerre mai giuste, affrontate con grande audacia espressiva, cui si accompagna talvolta una sagace ironia, che vuole provocare, punzecchiare le menti e spingerle a non arrestarsi sotto la polvere di una realtà già fatta, ma a pensare, a riflettere per creare una visione propria e personalissima del mondo.
